Le Havre – A Quiet Stop on the Way to Paris

This stop on the cruise was advertised as “Paris/Normandy (Le Havre)” — with many passengers choosing excursions into Paris.

I decided to do the opposite.

Instead of a long day trip, I stayed local and explored Le Havre itself.

Arriving at the Port

We docked directly at the port, making disembarkation quick and easy.

Rather than taking the shuttle bus, I chose to walk into town. It took about 15 minutes — not the most scenic route through the port, but it was straightforward and saved both time and money.

A Different Kind of Day

Le Havre felt very different from the other stops on the cruise.

When I arrived in the town centre, it was surprisingly quiet — almost deserted. Even the waterfront, though pleasant, had a calm and subdued atmosphere.

It wasn’t bustling or lively… but that, in itself, was quite a contrast.

An Unexpected Highlight

One thing that did catch my attention was the “Catena Container Sculpture” — a creative structure made from stacked shipping containers.

It was bold, unusual, and completely unexpected — definitely the highlight of my visit.

Final Thoughts

Le Havre may not have been the most exciting stop on the itinerary, but it offered something different.

A slower pace, fewer crowds, and a chance to wander without a plan.

For those wanting to see Paris, the excursions make perfect sense. But for me, it was a quiet few hours — and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
